What window rubber seal replacement involves

Seal replacement fits new rubber gasket to the window so the sash or glass sits tight against the frame. Singapore heat and UV harden gaskets from the outside in, and a hardened gasket shrinks away from the corners first. Replacing it fixes rattles and wind noise, and often reduces rain ingress — but it is not automatically the cure for a leak, and an honest assessment says so before the work.

Signs the part may be faulty

The window rattles or whistles in strong wind although it is properly closed.

How the repair is handled

Send close-ups of the gasket at the corners and along the run, plus a full-window photo.
The contractor identifies the gasket profile and estimates the length required.
If leakage is the reason for the call, an inspection may be quoted before any repair.
On site, the old gasket is removed, the channel cleaned and new gasket fitted with corners properly formed.
The window is closed and checked for even compression along the whole run.

Who is allowed to do this work

Repairing or replacing parts on an existing window is maintenance. HDB states that flat owners or occupants are responsible for maintaining existing aluminium windows. Installing or replacing a whole aluminium window in an HDB flat is different: HDB states that it must be carried out by a BCA-approved window contractor listed in HDB's directory, and BCA defines an approved window contractor as a firm registered under workhead RW01. Warranty

HDB's terms for approved window contractors listed with HDB set a minimum three-month warranty on replaced parts and a one-year warranty on a total window replacement. We require partner terms that meet the current official requirement, and the applicable warranty must appear on both the quotation and the invoice — not be described verbally. If a repair fails inside its warranty period, tell us and we handle it with the partner rather than leaving you to chase it.

Can a rubber gasket stop rainwater leakage?

It can, when the water is genuinely getting past a perished seal. It will not help when water is entering through a failed frame joint, cracked external sealant, a blocked drainage slot or the wall around the window. That is why leakage cases are inspected rather than quoted blind from photos.

Why does a closed window still rattle?

The most common reason is a hardened gasket that no longer fills the gap between sash and frame, so wind can move the sash within its own clearance. A misaligned keeper that holds the window shut without pulling it tight produces the same symptom.

How often do window seals need replacing in Singapore?

There is no fixed interval — it depends on sun exposure, orientation and how exposed the facade is. West-facing and high-floor windows tend to harden first. The practical trigger is the condition: chalky, cracked or shrunken rubber has reached the end of its service life.
